Skid Steer Operator's Body Recovered from Pond in Hanover Area

On Christmas Eve, a tragic accident claimed the life of a 58-year-old man in the Rural Municipality of Hanover. Authorities recovered his body from a pond after his skid steer broke through the ice earlier in the day.

Steinbach RCMP reported receiving an emergency call around 1:30 p.m. on December 24, stating that the machinery had submerged, trapping the operator.

The Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) conducted a search using sonar and an aquatic robot, locating the man late Tuesday afternoon.

The victim’s identity has not been released, and no additional details have been provided about the incident.
