A small fire at a seniors’ residence in southwest Calgary on Saturday evening led to a temporary relocation of several residents as authorities addressed the situation.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Simcoe Road S.W., according to a Calgary Fire battalion chief. Crews responded to reports of smoke emanating from the building and discovered that a rooftop heating unit was the source.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the smoking unit and worked to ventilate the area to clear the smoke.
Approximately a dozen residents were temporarily moved to another part of the facility while the ventilation process was underway.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved without further issues. An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
